San Ramon Valley High School – 2004 Winner
Janet Willford teaches Speech and Debate and Leadership. But stating what she teaches doesn’t come close to describing what Janet does. She chaperones at dances, attends rallies and accompanies students on field trips. Her fellow teachers tell us that Janet can be found on campus well after every teacher has left the building. On Saturdays she is at Speech and Debate contests from 6:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
In addition to her teaching duties, Janet has set about to touch the lives of every student in the school. Currently, Janet oversees the following programs at San Ramon:
Leadership: Student Activities;
Leadership: Student Recognition and Support;
LINK Crew, a program to welcome and orient incoming freshmen;
Every 15 Minutes, a program to educate students about the dangers of drinking and driving;
Renaissance Program, a reward program for student excellence;
Youth Educators;
WASC Focus groups;
Tobacco- Free Education;
President of the Golden Gate Speech Association;
In addition, she led three two-week youth service trips to Costa Rica.
