Monte Vista High School – 1993 Winner
As a science teacher at Monte Vista High School, Mr. Hitomi addressed the needs of “at risk” students by creating a program called PRISM, providing reduced class size, block scheduling, integrated curriculum, and diverse teaching strategies designed to accommodate a wide spectrum of individual learning styles and needs. Forming partnerships with local business and industry, Mr. Hitomi raised over $10,000 in grants and donations for his school, while concurrently spending over 200 hours in workshops and symposiums, updating his knowledge in the field.
